So I decided to start paying attention to the WNBA and my social media feed is all about Caitlin and the LPGA and the WNBA. But apparently there's a lot of drama with how the WNBA has treated her all year? But since I just started following, I'm not really caught up.
What's going on with CC and the WNBA? and is it manufactured drama or legit?
I haven’t seen the precise grievances but I have the sense that there are a lot of Caitlin fans who don’t respect that the WNBA is already jam packed with the best women playing basketball on earth.
Good question. Need to do a little more research. My question would be how do the top one or two candidates fit with the teams who would receive them.
For one thing, the Vs have an option (Dec. 6) to draft an uncored/unprotected free agent from any team. So that changes that remaining team and how it would look at the time of the WNBA draft.
Eh, no very good reason. Just not really a Texas guy. Beyond that, I also just haven’t really found them much fun to watch the last few years. Arike can light it up at times, but it’s a lot of chucking from her.
Here is what I gained from reading various reports. Numbers are approximate.
1. Mystics (10% chance) , maybe in greatest need of winning the lottery, and are most in need of a strong player to anchor their competent supporting cast.
2. Wings have best odds, due to pick owed by Sky, but are losing their two best players (Sabally, Howard) . They may lose their best player next year. Will need infusion of new talent.
3. Sparks (44% chance) , but already have good, young talent ( Brink, Jackson) . Could use a lead guard.
4. Sky (22% chance) with 3 very good rookies ( Reece, Cardoso, Carter) , but questionable leadership. May lose their pick.
Yeah, Washington is my choice. I’m not really sure which of their players they're expecting back, but Paige, Atkins, and Sykes would already be a really fun core. And then if EDD came back, and if Austin could stay healthy, that’s arguably a fringe contender.
On the debit side, Mystics have maybe the worst camera angles on their home broadcast in the entire league. It looks like when they used to show high school games on cable access.
For the most part, I don't think you can really tell much about someone from an interview like this, but, with that caveat, I feel like the V's made a good hire. I don't know how much a coach can affect the team chemistry at the professional level when the players are adults with their own lives but I know it's something Kerr (who learned it from Pop) place a high value on so I think the fact that Nakase also does is a good place to start.
(if I ever got to give some advice to that interviewer from wnba.com, I'd suggest he not insert himself into his questions so much)
Yeah, interesting the Pop line showing up as similar approaches in Becky and Steve Kerr. I thought her comment on the team "loving" each other and buying in on D in Game 4 was what you want to see in a team. Will be interesting how quickly the Vs can build up team cohesion given that basically none of them would have played together before this coming season.
I think it is possible that if the Vs sign a free agent from a team, they can also pick one of the players from that same team in the expansion draft. So with any luck, at least two players will have been on the same team together. No idea if that even matters.

The Vs need a mascot. I hope they will get something closer to the Liberty’s Ellie, the elephant, than Sacramento’s demented Burger King pumpkin.
Personally, I think it should be a big blue furry sea otter with a long tail it can swish around to amuse the audience.
WNBA draft lottery Sunday Nov. 17, 2 PM. Valkyries expansion draft Dec. 6. On ESPN. Time TBA.
Which team would you prefer to see win the lottery? For me, it’s anyone but Dallas.

Why anyone but Dallas?

I don’t think the lottery order will affect GSV since the same 4 teams will be ahead of them…
I can’t support an LA team and Chicago is rumored to treat their players not well, so I guess if you’re vetoing DAL, we have to GO WASHINGTON

Thanks for posting this. Good read.
I’ve always been very curious about Becky Hammond.
