Eric, or anyone - do you know if Marine Johannes is available in the expansion draft? She didn't play for the Liberty this past season from what I know. But looks like the Liberty have exclusive rights to her in free agency?

She was discussed in the Draft Prediction Series as available to be picked for the Liberty. My understanding is that any player whose rights are owned by an WNBA team is eligible (subject to the various rules described in that series).

She would be fun!

Boo, will have to tape it and watch later. Luckily I have my trusty betamax ready.

On those lines, get ready for all the new fans to be confused and/or complain about the 9 AM Pacific tip offs for the camp days.

Valhalla.basketball noted that GSV only has one game tipping off before noon (Jul 27 @ CON), so it looks like GSV won’t have a camp day or play in someone else’s camp day.

So it would make sense for the Vs to keep some of their financial powder dry until that happens in case they can snag someone special on the FA market flood next year. Assuming they are considering that, how might that affect their choices this year (expansion draft, draft, and FA)?

The obvious answer is that they will probably not overpay anyone or select anyone they consider overpaid but, in my quest to understand the nuances better, are there any more subtle choices the looming FA event might affect? ]]

My understanding is that because the CBA will be re-negotiated after 2025, everyone is expecting salaries to go up, so almost every free agent is signing deals that expire at the end of 2025. So I assume GSV will be in the same position for their free agents (leaving only rookies and existing contracts as multi-year contracts).

I guess there could be some 3D chess where GSV avoids drafting multi-year contracts in order to keep max financial flexibility. On the other hand, these multi-year contracts have the potential to be really great deals when the cap goes up.

Hey, happy expansion draft week everyone! Just 4 days to go.

I'm curious if well hear about any deals soon, or if they'll hold off until Friday to announce anything.

In 2008, the Atlanta Dream announced all the expansion picks and deals at the same time. I assume this time, since it's on ESPN, it will be milked for drama by announcing each team's draftee and then ending with announcement of all the trades. After a word from the sponsor

play-off format changes are a big improvement, especially the switch from 2-1 home vs away - that was nice for travel but too big an advantage and also meant in practice one team's fans often had no home game in the series.

Yes, bad for fans and also bad for the home arena receipts and concessions/merch sales etc.

It's going to be interesting how things shake down at Chase if the Warriors make a deeper playoff run. I expect some V's games to get rescheduled.

This would be a GREAT problem to have!

NBA should be able to schedule around the May games, and if GSW makes the Finals, then in June there are only possible conflicts with GSV home games on Sun Jun 1 5:30, Sat Jun 7 noon, Sat Jun 14 5:30. That looks possible with either scheduling the NBA Finals around that or possibly changing the time of the GSV games but keeping the date...

If the Warriors go deep into the playoffs, would love to see the Valkyries play some games at Oakland Coliseum!

That's a cool idea!

But not practical, as all the season ticket holders are attached to seats at Chase Center. But maybe they could have some future exhibitions at the old Roaracle?
