For warriors games we always buy day of (usually 2-5 hours before game time) and it’s always lower than the day before (at least for resale!).
I would say always worth checking! And if you’re in a position to take last minute tickets, I’ll remember that and ask if you want my tickets if I ever can’t make a game!
OK, thnx, I will try on the day of the 25th. Tickets where I usually sit in 108, 109, 110 have increased in price by 2->5X times in the last two weeks so I’m looking for another option.
Very kind of you to offer possible last-minute tickets.
Sometimes the price goes down, it’s random. A friend of mine was handed free tickets by a Chase employee when he was watching a GSV game on the big screen outside. (Shhh…) Also doesn’t hurt to check at box office at some point to see if anyone left a ticket.
This was the OFFICIAL welcome back for the Eurobasket players. We had some preview performances that were a bit concerning, but tonight was opening night and the critics gave glowing reviews. Still some shot selection issues for Ja, but that’s mostly her being young and used to having to be the #1. I think she’s still a strong candidate for the All-Rookie team though. That would be awesome! It was just great finally see some of those jumpers go down. It was also awesome to see Temi getting the basket more. It felt like we hadn’t been using her pick-and-roll abilities as much lately, but we definitely did last night. And Ceci was just perfect. Way more versatile than the 3-point shooter she was in Minnesota. Those was some incredible baskets.
Talbot started the year off hurt and was in and out of the rotation. But she played hard when called upon and seemed to be a model of grace and positivity as a teammate.
Ingemi and Richard Cohen also posted about it. Seems like, as people have noted, this was the most sensible and least painful cut. Not sure she gets picked up at this point, but at least she gets her full salary.
I'm pretty pumped to see what this team looks like with Rupert. But, NN does have kind of the pre-Jimmy Dubs issue with too many players for the number of rotation spots. I'm hoping they can do enough to not just make the playoffs but miss the 7 or 8 slots.
Watched the replay a little bit ago, and taking into account if Veronica was not eligible, I’d give the VV to Cece and Temi to share. Cece because she was coming up clutch near the end with some big baskets to keep us in it, and Temi because she was really grinding down low and getting tough baskets even while having to battle with A’ja there and on the other end.
Speaking of which, yeah I guess we do need Rupert to come through if we’re needing to plug that hole of not enough size on the squad (and if it’s gonna come down to Chen, Amihere, or Talbot being the odd woman out, it probably should be Talbot just because I think we can’t afford to lose a PG—Leite I think might be better off ball than a real full back-up there—or someone who plays bigger like Amihere).
Though maybe the bigs deficiency shouldn’t be too overstated when it’s coming after a game played against A’ja Wilson, who you can only hope to contain most nights. Just last game, our bigs did fine against someone great, if not as elite as Wilson, in Aliyah Boston.
Still, yeah, let’s see Rupert this season, if only to see as much of what we got and how it all works together before next season, not that I’m thinking that far ahead, because of course we got a playoff-caliber squad at this point if they keep building on what’s there now.
Stupid Valkyries! You were supposed to be a plucky expansion team. Not very good but just reveling in your existence. You were not supposed to be competitive with the best in the league and make me care about the outcomes. I was just supposed to get to watch in a zen like calm and enjoy the game. But nooooooo! You have to be good and make me care about the outcomes and making the playoffs and stuff. Now I live and die on the results. I love your fight-to-the-end-never-say-die attitude which keeps you in most games when the best player on the court is never on our side (and sometimes none of the top 3 or maybe even 4 players). I love the energy of the team and pretty much everything except how much I am unhappy that we didn't find a way to pull that one out. Too much stress for summer! Stupid Valkyries being good and all!
Dang right? Like, with what we were expecting before the season, if you had told me we’d have a game like this one where we were an inch of beating Las Vegas, I’d have been, “dope!” Of course wouldn’t have predicted we would actually stomp them like we did a few weeks ago, but here we are. In the words of De La Soul, “Stakes is high” and it’s awesome but yeah the heart rate is less chill on nailbiters than it would be if this had just been a “Great Time Out” season. But I’ll take it, and I know we all will
Even though the game ended in a tough loss with a dreadful and nail biting finish, I am honestly not mad at all. The entire team was in it, fighting until the very end. Even Ja and Ceci seemed to finally get about 80–85% of their grooves back. Nat had some great setups in the final minutes that helped squeeze in key points, though execution still needs some tightening.
Today also made it clear that we need more size to help box out and secure those rebounds(Those aces oboards absolutely killed us😭honestly same for the sky game too but we won that one) So welcome Iliana🙂↕️
Regardless, this first real multi game road trip gave the team valuable experience in managing away games. Hoping for better results after the all star break. Need to brace ourselves for the second half of the season. It is going to be even tougher.
I’m with you. I was kinda strangely not mad about this one. It was just such a good game. Definitely a game of the year candidate. Terrible defense though. They’re getting yelled at about that for sure. But it’s very rare that a defensive masterclass is considered a game of the year.
Also, for fellow Bay Area sports enthusiasts out there, my friend came up with this totally unconfirmed theory that if the Giants and Valkyries are playing at the same time, they either win together or lose together. We even recalled something similar happening earlier this year when the Warriors were in the playoffs. Maybe one day I will actually run the data to see if he’s onto something or just talking nonsense 😂
I appreciate your description of the random ending. It was actually quite surprising that GSV fought back to tie it at 94-94 because Wilson and Young were virtually unstoppable and the Aces were in the bonus and just not missing FTs. It was a random exciting finish to an extraordinary game.
I am biased as always but I would give VV to VB today! Not her best defense at the end but she was phenomenal both ways in the first half, had some huge energy plays down the stretch, and had eight assists with zero turnovers. Things really went downhill with her out of the game, too.
I am not understanding the no challenging strategy from Nakase and staff. Felt like they could've gotten at least one foul off of Burton and/or Temi, and there were 1 or 2 out of bounds calls that were certainly close as well. Just doesn't really make sense to me but maybe I'm missing something.
Sometimes stars are gonna star, especially for an Aces team that has been waiting to really get it into gear. That said the effort from the Valks was terrific, even if the result wasn't. Obviously the next two games don't get any easier but if they can find a way to split them there are a ton of winnable matchups on the other side of the All-Star Break, especially if Rupert can come in and get integrated quickly.
Oh and my Veronica Burton stat of the day - she is now third in the WNBA in assist to turnover ratio (not counting players who have participated in fewer than half of their team's games)
Last thing, I promise - would've loved to see more Martin today. Salaun did a lot of things well as per usual but I think Martin is contributing more than her on the defensive end and is a more reliable shooter, despite being a smaller body/less athletic and having less of an inside game. Very interested in how things progress in these next two games rotation-wise with seemingly everybody up and running at full speed
Yes, I ran out of poll spots and decided to invent a new policy that whoever won the last Valkyrie Valor was not eligible the next game. On reflection, I think that is a good policy.
Tickets: does anyone know if tickets get less expensive on the day of the game?

I am so much enjoying your positivity.
Talbot has(reportedly) been waived.
It looks like the only place it's been reported is the V's official Instagram page.
GSV announced it officially at 8am today.
Stephanie Talbot has been waived. The reasons are explained in this article: https://valkyrienation.substack.com/p/who-is-iliana-rupert-and-who-could
Talbot started the year off hurt and was in and out of the rotation. But she played hard when called upon and seemed to be a model of grace and positivity as a teammate.
Good luck, Stephanie!

Tough ending, but that was an entertaining game to watch. Aja Wilson is like Raptor Chris Bosh.
Reminds me of KD when she shoots. Smooth moves.

Pretty good showing against a team that has three perennial All-Stars!

Your friend may be on to something…
VB all the way.

Ok I like that policy too! Still voting for VB even if she's not eligible though lol
