Valkyries announce final roster; waive fan favorites Amihere, Bibby, Cunane, Chen and Toure
Those players had their moments, but it's a DEEP roster
GSV announces:
The Golden State Valkyries have announced their final 12 person roster for the 2025 WNBA season. The team has waived Laeticia Amihere, Chloe Bibby, Elissa Cunane, Kaitlyn Chen, and Migna Touré.
The final roster for the Golden State Valkyries consists of guards: #0 Carla Leite, #15 Tiffany Hayes, #20 Kate Martin, #22 Veronica Burton, and #35 Julie Vanloo; forwards: #5 Kayla Thornton, #7 Stephanie Talbot, #13 Janelle Salaün, and #24 Cecilia Zandalasini; and centers: #14 Temi Fágbénlé, #25 Monique Billings, and #31 Kyara Linskens.
What happened to my favorite player?
In short, who would you replace in the Final 12 for your favorite player?
Amihere scored a zillion points and looks like a future star. But the front court has plenty of players with WNBA experience.
One can argue that GSV needs to be hoarding young future stars and not worry about winning this year. (I lean this way.) But GSV didn’t agree.
The other question is about Janelle Salaun who on paper is a WNBA rookie and the same age as Amihere and didn’t show up to training camp! But she was busy doing a little something in Italy, being the Finals MVP of the Italian championship. She might be worth saving a seat for.
Chloe Bibby, Elissa Cunane, Kaitlyn Chen, didn’t get much preseason playing time and the writing was on the wall for them. Talented players all, but outclassed for now by the other players.
Migna Touré got some play last game, but she would be behind Hayes, Burton, Vanloo, Martin and Leite (finals MVP in EuroCup!). Maybe could make a case for Toure over Martin?
Also
Who knows, maybe Leite (not going to eurobasket) will steal the top guard position before Jocyte comes …
Game thread up!
I found it! (Well, it kinda fell in my lap, thanks universe!)
