Eurobasket 2025 is finally here. In WNBA, we feel its shadow as the reason many players will be gone for a chunk of June.
Who in the WNBA is leaving and who stayed?
Here are all the WNBA players that will be participating. For completeness, I also added the WNBA players that declined to play Eurobasket. This table is sortable.
Yes, the Valkyries are hit the hardest with 4 active players playing and 2 important inactive players playing. NYL and DAL have 2 active players and MIN has 1. I got this data from this helpful article at Winsider.
When do the games happen and how do I watch?
The WNBA insists that “All games will be live-streamed on FIBA’s official YouTube channel.”
Update 2025-06-18:
However, I am finding this is not true.
You can follow the live box scores at https://www.fiba.basketball/en/events/fiba-womens-eurobasket-2025/games
The video proper is available at https://www.courtside1891.basketball/competitions/fiba-womens-eurobasket-2025 with a Max account ($9 for EuroBasket Women, $30 for all FIBA). https://www.courtside1891.basketball/choose-a-package
Here is the schedule of games, with Valkyries noted from each team (scroll all the way to the right). This table is also sortable. Go to Page 2 for the schedule of the Knockout Stage.
If you make it out of group stage, then you have to stay through Jun 29 because there are “classification” games between the teams that lose to determine the order of finish outside of #1-#2.
When will the Valkyries players be back?
Super-commenter Dubsnerd summarized things nicely, so I’m just reposting their comment here:
I was wondering when we should expect players back from Europe. Note that if you make it past the group stage, there are seeding games so you are booked up until June 29th even if you lose in the semis.
Here are the groups, the FIBA world rankings, and an asterisk for teams with players expected to return to the Valkyries:
Group A (group stage in Greece):
*France(3)
Switzerland (24)
Greece (21)
Turkey (17)
Group B (group stage in Italy):
Slovenia (22)
Serbia (8)
*Italy (16)
Lithuania (45)
Group C (group stage in Czech):
*Belgium (6)
Czech (18)
Montenegro (19)
Portugal
Group D (group stage in Germany):
*Great Britain (20)
Germany (13)
Sweden (25)
Spain (5)
So, I'd expect Salaün (and Rupert, from what I hear) and JVL to be playing next week. Temi is probably going to be back early. Zandalasini could go either way, from the rankings that isn't a hard group, but I could also see Italy getting beat out. On the other hand, they are home for the group stage games so may have a home court advantage. Anyway I'll still be rooting for all their teams to do well even if we'll miss them for another 3 games.
The only part I disagree with is the last part. As far as I’m concerned I would prefer all the Valkyries have amazing personal best games in a losing cause so they’ll be back sooner.
What games will they return for?
Here is the schedule as of today.
June 17 at #13 Dallas Wings ← YOU ARE HERE
June 19 vs #7 Indiana Fever
June 22 vs #11 Connecticut Sun
June 25 vs #1 New York Liberty
(return this game for losers of Group Stage, probably Temi and maybe Cecilia)
June 27 vs #12 Chicago Sky
June 29 vs #5 Seattle Storm
July 5 at #2 Minnesota Lynx
(return this game for everyone)
