The primary index for the whole Expansion Draft Series is here.
Fansided: Lexie Hull
With all apologies to Clark, her drive-thru buddy might be moving on this winter. The Stanford product was a starter in the postseason, but with Clark and Kelsey Mitchell locks for protection, Indiana might look at other positions for their remaining spots. Their loss would be Golden State's gain, as Hull is a former top-10 pick who shot 44.1% from the field this season and does a little bit of everything.
SI.com: NaLyssa Smith
NaLyssa Smith is one of the six most talented players on Indiana's roster. But with everything that has happened this year, it appears clear that she wants out of Indiana — and the Fever appear happy to oblige by not protecting her. This is another one that feels obvious, and Smith is a player Golden State would be stoked to have rostered.
Valhalla.Basketball (very detailed analysis at site): Grace Berger
If the Fever are able to protect the six players at the top of our list, then the Valkyries will be left without obvious choices. NaLyssa Smith would be the most recently productive player, but the team will have to evaluate whether she is experiencing a dip right now and can be put back on the track that people were hoping for her to be on after her rookie season. If they are not convinced of that or they are concerned about flexibility, Grace Berger might be the more preferable option as the player under consideration whose contract is not guaranteed. She would then be able to compete in training camp for a roster spot and the team would be able to move on if it does not work out for her. The Fever might make some offers to try to get the Valkyries to commit to a particular pick, but are unlikely to include any significant asset to do so, leaving them as not the most interesting potential trade partner.
The Athletic listed their guesses. The article included this which I hadn't heard before:
The draft isn’t an ideal method for Golden State to build its roster, either, because the Valkyries can select only role players once each team protects its top six. In some instances, it would behoove Golden State to pass and leave roster spots open for free agency. However, it’s important to note that the Valkyries can waive any player taken in the expansion draft before the start of the season without a hit to their salary cap, and the players still get paid the full value of their contracts. As a result, the players selected in the draft wouldn’t necessarily start the season on Golden State’s roster. (Teams will provide their official protected lists Monday.)
